Prison Ministry Connection at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Henrietta.
For over 20 years, a few members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Henrietta, have engaged in various outreach projects in Monroe County detention facilities, as well as participation in the Prison Ministry Committee hosted by the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester. Currently, St. Peter’s is the sponsoring church for the Rochester Storybook Project, which serves selected inmates in the Monroe County Jail in downtown Rochester. In addition, we serve as webmaster for the informational website prisonministry-edr.org, funded by our diocese.
The Rochester Storybook Project donates new books to children of inmates for ages from toddlers up to early teens and sends a recording of their parent reading short passages from these books to them. We welcome volunteers from our area who come from diverse faith communities or local area colleges to work with us. For those beginning the re-entry process after incarceration in either our county jail or nearby state prisons, visit our website prisonministry-edr.org, which we manage for the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester. This website presents 19 articles published in the last decade that address projects, past or present, and includes a partial list of currently operating agencies that may offer assistance with re-entry issues, employment, rehabilitation, etc. While this website contains only a partial list of agencies, it can be useful in making direct contact with agencies we’re most familiar with, or if needed, additional agencies not listed here for further references for your specific needs. Ideas for possible new volunteer opportunities may also be gained through reading these newsletters. All of the newsletters are listed under specific topics for easy reference.
